Reading Update
The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness (10th Anniversary Edition) by Michelle Alexander. Very powerful. Very tragic. Completely enraging.
Imaginary Numbers (InCryptid #9) by Seanan McGuire. Well, there IS a bonus novella at the end, but the main story ends in a cliffhanger and the next book isn’t out until late February 2021. Grr.
Temporally Out of Order edited by Joshua Palmatier. I checked it out for the Seanan McGuire short story, but I ended up enjoying nearly all of the stories in this collection.

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. WOW. I liked this a lot more than The Night Circus. Still won’t swear that I understood all of it!

The Phoenix Files (SPI Files #6) by Lisa Shearin. I’m not exactly sure why I read this, other than the ebook was checked in at my library…
In Truth and Claw (Mick Oberon #4) by Ari Marmell. I tried, but I only got a few pages in and realized I wasn’t interested in continuing this series.
To Kill a Mocking Girl (Bookbinding Mystery #1) by Harper Kincaid. Sometimes a cozy mystery hits the spot.

Come Tumbling Down, 
Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children 4-5, 1) by Seanan McGuire. Tore right through In an Absent Dream and then had to go back and reread the first book because I didn’t remember who Lundy was. D’oh. Then zoomed through Come Tumbling Down, too. Whew!
Just Us: An American Conversation by Claudia Rankine. Powerful. Moving. Insightful. Painful. Definitely rereading it. I watched her interview with Kerri Miller of Talking Volumes (Virtual) (MN Public Radio) and took a couple pages of notes during it.

Reading Update
Citizen: A American Lyric by Claudia Rankine. I am not sure I understood it all, but what I did understand packed a wallop.

Ghost Money (Eric Carter 1-5) by Stephen Blackmoore. Entertaining series set in LA about a necromancer who’s been away for 15 years but returns after his sister is murdered. Warning that the 4th and 5th books end on cliffhangers. GRRRRRR. Also, Fire Season hits pretty hard with the fires in California right now.
City of the Lost by Stephen Blackmoore. Sort of a prequel for the Eric Carter series, but set before Eric Carter returned to LA.

I’m taking several virtual book arts classes in September and October that are on Thursday evenings, so do not be surprised if there’s no linkity or only the most minimal of linkity. On the plus side, by the end of October, I will only need 3.5 more “graduate” credits to completed my Advanced Book Arts Certificate through the Minnesota Center for Book Arts! 🙂
