Hmm. The dishes in the sink are suspiciously black and furry…

Author Barbara Bretton (who wrote the wonderful Casting Spells) is giving away six skeins of alpaca silk to a lucky commenter. Leave your comments before the evening of March 6.

Bridget’s giving away a copy of Julia & Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously by Julie Powell. Send her an email or leave a comment by March 7 for your chance to win. (I read it a while ago and enjoyed it, although some of the cooking scenes left me queasy.)

There’s still time to contribute to Animal Rescue of Fresno (ARF) and participate in Concateknit’s contest! For every $5 you contribute, you get an entry in the contest, which ends March 7.

If you’re interested in the chance to win an iPod Touch and are willing to work for it a little, check out the latest contest over at Bitten By Books. Contest runs through March 20.

OMG! A real panther cub! The cute! The cute! It burns!

Eeep! Chaos?!

Dear Author has a list of recommended romance releases for March.

Check out the Random House Suvudu Free First Book Library, where you can download the first title of a series for free. Current titles are Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb, Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson, Settling Accounts: Return Engagement by Harry Turtledove, His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik, and Blood Engines by T.A. Pratt. I just downloaded Blood Engines myself.

While being able to find more information on every little thing that wanders through your head is a nifty aspect of the interwebz, keeping a tangents log can help you stay more focused.

IKEA Planner is a nifty little free Windows application that lets you play around with how different IKEA stuff will fit into your space.

If you’re like me, glasses shopping is fraught with peril (since you can’t actually see what you look like in various frames). The FrameFinder seems like it could be very handy for us.

Like to learn things but don’t really want to bother with credits and all that? Check out the list of 200 free online classes put together by the Online Education Database.

Eeek! If a kitteh like this shows up at your house, you should probably run away really really fast (taking your hard drives with you, of course).

“If I pretend I can’t see you, Mom, you can’t tell me I shouldn’t be in the sink. Besides, all panthers hang out in sinks. Really.” -Mayhem

  1. My kitties like to hang out in the bathroom sink, but never the kitchen sink. Hmmmm, maybe that’s because it’s always full.

  2. Hmm, I have the same type “issue” in my bathroom sink… however she’s usually demanding that I turn on the faucet so she can drink fresh water.

and thanks for the frame finder link! I’m off to the eye doctor today and always hate getting 5 in away from the mirror to see how frames look 😀

  3. I downloaded Blood Engine, too.
    And entered Barbara’s contest.
And Mayhem looks awfully smug in that sink. What is it with cats and porcelain?

  4. How cute is that little panther cub? Do you think he’d fit in my apartment, or your condo? Do you think he’d get along with the other kitties? I’m thinking vet check-up day wouldn’t go that great…so maybe not.
*sigh* And the food bill! Oy.

    Thanks for that IKEA link!

  5. Dear Mayhem: I’m hiding in the sink now too. Mine has sis’s oatmeal in it and I’m waiting for them to leave so I can sluuuuurp it up. Love, Sammy

  6. Heh, I recently got new glasses (cute but too big, may have to go back). Did you see the LH post about buying eyeglasses online?

I’m glad Suvudu is doing the free ebook thing, and there are 4 I haven’t read yet! : )

  7. I think you may have a serious fungus problem in that sink, black fungus is the worst too.

    Cute socks and baby blanket!

Love the sculpture garden. Of course who wouldn’t love a sculpture of a big spoon with a cherry, that is always the best part of an ice cream sundae.

  8. Last night both of the ferocious kitties were extracted from the kitchen sink; Jack was busted twice. I have asked Harley to keep a better eye on them, but he is very busy keeping both eyes on Mr. M.

  9. Aww… didn’t realize MayMay was a sink kitteh. Have you read the Outlander books? They’re LONG (800+ pages each), but you wish they were even longer.

  10. Ah! Something’s really wrong with that dish!

You know, once they get furry like that you just can’t get rid of them. Before you know it you’ll be finding the same stuff on bookshelves, rolling on the floor, and resting on your knitting. It’s too late now.

  11. I hate shopping for glasses! I just want to be left alone. Until I need someone, and then I want them to be there right away.

  12. I saw that electro-kitteh on Lolcats and have been confused ever since. Is it a cross between a hairless cat and a normal cat? Is it a cross between a cat and a rodent? What IS it? But it’s so ugly, it’s cute. Maybe it’s a gremlin?

  13. Thanks for all the links! I sent the tangent log link to M; we’ll see how that is received.

May, what if your mom turns on the water? That’s how my mom taught one of her cats not to sleep in the sink. Just food for thought…Besides the black panther camouflage isn’t working too well in the white sink. 😉

  14. The tangents log seems like a -smart- idea, but I’d hate to lose all of the wonderful things that I stumble upon while following the “really silly” things that pop into my head. I think that focus is good (at least, in theory – I have no personal experience with it,) but I think serendipity is better.

  15. I saw a lion cub who was a bit older than the panther cub in the link stalk and attack another tourist who was kneeling in the pet-the-cubs enclosure. No injuries, but it was hilarious. And a little frightening to imagine that 15 lb, cub when he grew to 400 lb.

  16. The nice thing about sinks is that they’re often cat shaped.

Thanks for the FrameFinder link! I hate trying on frames in person.

I keep a journal and put some tangent stuff in there. But I still look up stuff too.

  17. Hilarious sink kitty. Although, I was kind of hoping by the title that I wasn’t the only one behind on dishes.
