We didn’t make it to the cabin…

This was not the weekend my brother, SIL, and I had planned. On Friday night, my brother and SIL were driving up to the cabin. They stopped at a Dairy Queen for supper and were sitting on the tailgate of their pickup, eating their burgers and enjoying a lovely summer evening when a minivan backed up without looking and trapped my SIL’s leg against the truck tailgate. Initially, it seemed likely that she had a broken leg, but so far it’s “just” severely bruised. She’ll have more tests this week to see if there’s nerve, ligament, or tendon damage.

So I spent my weekend at my brother and SIL’s house, helping them out. I got a little knitting done – this bib was knit from the Fiesta Ombre Peaches’n’Cream that Frarochivia gifted me with. Isn’t it wild?! I love it. (And I decided to spare Chaos, so didn’t entrap him to model it.)

I also read Cherry Cheesecake Murder by Joanna Fluke, 342 pages. The latest in this somewhat silly series set in the fictional town of Lake Eden, Minnesota, again features cookie baker Hannah Swensen, her giant orange tomcat Moishe, more romantic entanglement for Hannah, and lots of recipes. I’m a sucker for those Minnesota mysteries. 🙂

Anyway, this is going to be a week or so of craziness, with unpredictable blogging, erratic bloglines reading (I’ll probably never catch up!), and lots of family time. Send healing thoughts my SIL’s way, if you have a few to spare! Thanks.

“I hope you get better soon, Jess! Even though I sometimes hiss and spit at you when you come to visit, I know you took good care of me when I was a tiny kitten.”

  1. Oh my – your poor SIL!!! What a freak thing! I’m so glad it wasn’t worse.

That is one wild bib – the baby who wears that will definitely be a happening kid! Groovy baby.

  2. Wow! As bad as it is, the injury to the SIL could have been much worse. Needles crossed that there is no permanent damage.

  3. Geeeeeeeeeee… what a plonker!!!! I hope that your SIL will be okay!!!!

That bib is something else LOL. I love how it pooled in that special way LOL.

    Cheers Eva

  4. Oh my goodness! I hope everything turns out Ok for her! I got a real bad bruise from falling during soccer a few years ago (another reason I don’t do sports), and I was sure something was broken (it wasn’t). It was bad enough to have me on crutches for a few days, so I hope that doesn’t happen to her!
And that bib is just crazy!

  5. Your poor SIL! Hopefully the remaining tests wil be clear as well.Glad you managed to make the most of a change of plans – knitting time is always good 🙂

  6. Some people should not drive! Hope it’s nothing serious and that SIL heals soon. Sorry about your weekend but I’m sure Chaos enjoyed having you around!

  7. Oh my gosh!! I can’t believe that happened to your SIL. Please send her my best wishes and healing thoughts!!

I’m reading a Minnesota mystery also – one of the Cork O’Connor mysteries by William Kent Krueger.

  8. How awesome is that bib??????
I love it! It almost looks argyle the way the main part knit up.
Man I can’t believe someone pinned SIL’s legs between the trucks ouuuuuch!
Gosh I hope its just bruising and not broken or torn anything!

  9. Oh My! Yikes! Just the thought of that leaves my throat all pins-and-needles, your poor SIL (and your brother so scared I am sure!) Sending lots and lots of healing thoughts your way!

Yet another mysetery series I have to check out – my reading is so far behind just like your bloglines!

  10. Oh man – I’m really sorry about your sister-in-law. That’s just plain old bad and I’m having phantom pains in my leg thinking about it. I’m thinking of her and wishing her a full and speedy recovery.

    OK – enough bibs already!!

  11. Oh no, your poor SIL! Hopefully the tests won’t find any further damage to her leg.
I like that bib. It almost looks plaid.
Sending healing thoughts to your SIL.

  12. How awful! Hope it is not anything more serious than a bad bruise. You know, I have an SUV, and I bet it’s the same for minivans – you just cannot see what is directly behind you. I always pull out s.l.o.w.l.y. so as to avoid hitting anyone. This doesn’t excuse the driver who hit your SIL, but as I remind my mom, be careful walking behind those big cars in parking lots, because they can’t tell you are there until it’s too late. Good vibes going out for your SIL. The bib look great – I love how it patterned.

  13. Oh no! Your poor SIL! Yikes!

I’m glad you stil got to get a bit of knitting done.

I’ve only read the holiday Joanna Fluke, but I must revisit her as I think I’d enjoy the lightness of the series. I wonder if the local library has her…. Hmm… I’m enjoying John Sandford right now.

  14. OMG OMG OMG OMG Ouch ouch ouch ouch Oh, your poor SIL. I think the least Chaos could do was model the new bib. There are worse things. Oh, your poor SIL. (And that jackass in the minivan! There are accidents, adn then there is stupidity!) Healing vibes sent her way.

  15. Ouchies ouchies ouchies! Stupid van drivers! Soft tissue injuries can take a while to heal well – your SIL has good health insurance? (here we have medicare for every Australian, not just the special ones) Wishing her a speedy recovery!
Love the bib. I love the pooling and checking and the colour. I want one!

  16. I am so sorry for your SIL!! One of my biggest fears is not that it will happen to me, but that I’ll be the idiot who does it to someone else. I hope she mends quickly and she’s lucky to have you taking care of her.

  17. Hi delurking to say – OUCH! hope she heals quickly. I love the bib and the way the pattern developed.

I’m having trouble reading your posts on this new site, but when I click on comments the post is fine….strange, but I’m no techie so have no clue what the problem is.

  18. Your poor SIL! I hope it continues to be just bad bruising, it could have been so horribly, horribly worse. Wow.

I’m sure Chaos was spitting out of………something other than not liking his Auntie. That bib would have looked great on him. Check out those diamonds! Is that the yarn self patterning itself?

  19. OK, the SIL story really freaked me out. I’ve always been paranoid about being trapped between 2 cars. I’m glad to hear she didn’t get hurt any worse than that.

Onto happy thoughts…the bib — LOVE the patterning!

  20. Wow, I can’t imagine how scary that had to have been for her. I hope they got the driver’s info and stuff so that s/he can pay for any of the medical bills. Sending good, healing thoughts to your SIL.

    LOVE the bib.
