Today is Delurking Day!

I’d like to take a moment to thank those of you who comment regularly – you definitely help me feel more connected to the knitting and/or blogging community and I always appreciate your support and insights. If you haven’t commented before, or you don’t comment often, why not give it a shot today? I always reply to comments that have a valid email address.
(Well, ok, except for the happy birthday comments for Jeanne – she read your comments and definitely appreciated them!)
Limedragon is having a contest – leave her a comment by January 13, midnight CST, and you could win a copy of Blogging Tips: What bloggers won’t tell you about blogging.
Toronto music blogger Frank of Chromewaves is giving away two Phillips GoGear mp3 players – one to a US resident and another (better!) one to a Canadian resident. Contest closes January 17, midnight EST.
Have you heard about the Chunkster Challenge? (A chunkster is a 450+ page book of adult literature – no Twilight, no Harry Potter, no audiobooks.) Amy sums it up nicely and provides a link to the official site. Worth checking out if only for the amusing button.
More on the increased library use during our economically troubled times.
Too bad this lamp/bookmark is only a concept – it’s very clever.
Author Carrie Vaughn has an interesting three-part analysis of urban fantasy. (The link is to part 1.)
If you enjoy reading, erm, “racy” paranormal romances, you’ll probably get a giggle out of this NSFW blog entry.
Playing Tetris can wipe out bad memories?! Is this the future of PTSD treatment?
If you live in the Twin Cities and you’d like to see the Presidential Inauguration on the big screen, the Riverview Theater will be showing it. Admission is free.
Brace yourselves – you’re going to get a cute burn from this one.
“Really, Mom, I love pink feathers, but that little thing is just pathetic.” -Mayhem

Now you tell me! But how was I supposed to play Tetris when it was on the computer that died?
Oh, that wee widdle gray kitten is so sweet!
Chunkster challenge! Sounds interesting, I’m going to check it out.
Tetris eh?
I read all about that on the bbc website – I have been trying to get my students to stop playing computer games – not start them!
Awwww, cute kitten!
You too, Mayhem
I comment rarely enough to be a semi-lurker, I think. Happy Delurking Day!
Happy De-Lurking Day! Don’t you love cats? You do all the work and they look bored. Gotta love ‘em!
If I usually don’t lurk should I not comment? May! Did you eat the rest of that toy!?
ok…I’m delurking;)….I have an almost-black cat…she’s a bobtailed tortishell. Your kitties are adorable:)
I think I was participating in the Chunkster challenge without knowing. In December I started re-reading the Wheel of Time series, and those puppies are all at least 450 pages I’d think!
what cute pics! Thanks for keeping us up to date on what is happening!
Happy Delurking day back atcha!
I’m Chunkster-challenging my way through Anya Seton’s “Katherine” right now.
Hmm, I’m not sure all “chunky” books are worthy of reading just because they’re lengthy. I’ve read plenty of “chunky” book that weren’t really worth my time (I’ll never understand the fascination with Moby Dick) and plenty of shorter books that were. I’ve also read many, many kids books that were completely worthy of adult notice (and not just Harry Potter). So, I don’t think I’m going to restrict my books because of length or intended audience.
Hehehehe… I didn’t even see the pink feather when I looked at the picture. I saw May’s dismayed face and then read the comment and was wondering what was going on, so I looked at the picture again… too funny
Cheers Eva
*sigh* I like using the library, but the current economy is making it trickier–the local library budget and structure is not looking good.
Thanks for the tip about the Riverview – that sounds really fun! I’m debating keeping the older kid home so she can watch it with me, it seems like something momentous that I want her to remember.
Thanks for the linky! That lamp/bookmark does look very useful!
No, it wouldn’t kill me to delurk
Thanks for the heads up on Delurking Day – I shall put that announcement up on my post as well.
And the article about the library usage? Well, we know that yours and mine really hasn’t increased all that much, right? I mean, don’t we already treat the local libraries as our own personal, private bookstores and (be honest here) get just a wee bit miffed when the library doesn’t call us FIRST when a new book in our preferred genres arrives?? Hmm??
lol, so that’s why it seems to take longer to get the books on my booklist at the library now! (smile) love the lamp idea as well…handy! Hey, happy delurking day!
Ok, I will “delurk” for you
I read your blog through google reader most of the time and I am not much of a commenter. keep up the good work though!
Well I’m not delurking, but I am saying THANKS for blogging and sharing and commenting and reading my blog and all that happy blogger stuff.
*mwah!*
If today is the day that lurkers should comment, does that mean regular commenters should lurk?
Oops, I guess I just answered my own question. Happy day!
Forgot to add: There was a story on KARE11 news last week about other businesses that thrive during down times — car repair shops, shoe repair shops, electronics repair shops.
Delurking! Delurking! Good thing I can type and feed the Little Monster at the same time…
Happy Delurking day! I love stopping by to get a dose of black kitties every morning, and today is no exception
Chris- Can’t do the library thing- I’m germ phobic.
Visiting SOC is a highlight of my day.
I loved the first MN article about library use increasing, then they had almost the same article (must have been an AP news story) in the sfgate.com here. I’m looking forward to the second article. The thing that is interesting to me is that people are finally “discovering” the library (although it seems to me to be filled with people checking email and playing games on the computer more than looking for books lately), but libraries have always (and still do) not gotten the funding they need, and even though there is more usage there probably won’t be more funding. At least we can use what we’ve got now!
ok, fine. i’ll relurk so i can delurk
So does my former addiction to Tetris explain the fact that there seems to be lots of stuff I’ve forgotten? Like maybe stuff I did immediately before playing Tetris? hmmmm…
I love my library! I thought I was noticing an increase in traffic esp. DVDs. Great way to see all of the cable shows I’ve missed. I watched all 5 seasons of The Wire for free. Currently working my way through Lovejoy – the BBC series with Ian McShane.
And of course books, knitting and otherwise.
Um. Yeah. I’d be in the “not often” column. But here I am! De-lurking for YOU!
You cat photos and captions wonderfully capture cat’s elegance and delightful goofiness. I have a male, Sweetie Pie Guy who is Mayhem’s twin.
(waving) HI!
Here I am out in the open…
Thanks for all the links and book recommendations.
I found Charlaine Harris’s books through you and have lately been enjoying her vampire series.
And give your kitties a head scratch from me. I too live with a furry black live wire.
OK – that logo makes me want to go back to lurking cuz it’s just that kinda creepy!!!!
My library is much busier lately – fortunately my list of books I want to read is ever expanding so I just move onto the next one.
Oooh…the Chunkster Challenge sounds fun!
Well, I’m guessing that the little lone pink feather is probably May’s fault in the first place.
I want one of those lamps. Do you think if we start a petition they’ll make them?
My, what a lot of lurkers you have!
Well, I always knew tetris was good for you
I looove how Mayhem just sits so stately and beautifully in face of that pathetic feather
Way to bring those lurkers out. I’m guilty of it! I’ve been subscribed to your blog now for awhile. Love the cat picks and the knitting!
Hey, thanks for the link! And most of my posts *are* SFW, LOL.
At least there are no illustrations…
Love the lamp, but then again, who needs bookmarks? I find it hard to put a book down, and when I do, I just remember the page number.
BTW, the delurking trenchcoat Charlie is a hoot.
I definitely need one of those lamps!
Oooh, I want one of those lamps too – except that I’m no better at book monogamy than I am at knittin monogamy – I need one with several ‘branches’!
knittin*g*
Happy Delurking Day!!
Well, I’m a born lurker, but since you asked…
landshark
Wow! Lots of de-lurkers today.
Hey – I am just finishing up The Accidental Demon Slayer. Very light and fluffy, but kinda cute.
Hi Chris! I hate when comments drop off. Sorry I haven’t commented in a while.
What, delurking day? Ah, I suppose I’ll comment then

[...] was reminded by reading Chris’ blog that today is delurking day. So please feel free to delurk and leave a comment [...]
Another thrift tip that makes me laugh. What, go to the library? What a novel idea!! (No pun intended.) Maybe I’ll take the Chunkster Challenge by going to Library and finding some big fat books!
Why hello there!
I totally agree with Jessica (comment #26, I think) – I must stop by every day for a dose of Chaos and Mayhem
Your blog is one of my very favorites; your stories, the knitting, and I just love your book recommendations!
Hmm, I come here for the kitty pics
Happy Delurking Day!
I enjoy your blog and the antics of your two felines. They remind me of one of my cats now gone. He was called Sebastian and loved to pose on nice red woolen fabric. I think he knew how the bright red set of his black sleekness.
Like Amy, there is nothing like a challenge to make me not want to do whatever the challenge is. Since I want to re-read Gone with the Wind this year (haven’t read it since HS), I better not sign up.
Perhaps Mayhem didn’t have the best weekend? She seems grouchy.
Is it delurking day again already? Well, hi, Chris! (waving). Chappy just came over to say hi, too–see his tail wagging?
OK, here’s my delurk! Love the pictures…I always look forward to seeing your cats and their “cattitude”!
This is the first post of yours that I’ve read and now I’ve gotta delurk because it is delurking day (found you via WendyKnits). Once I hit post I’ll be adding you to my bloglines… cheers to a happy delurking day.
Okay, I guess I’ll de-lurk (if only for a moment.)
Like someone else said – I like to get a daily dose of blakc kitty cuteness!! Even though I have two of my onw – they are really hard to photograph well. You do a great job!
OMG. The LOLkitten. My squee ascended to notes I didn’t know I was capable of hitting. It looks just like Blue did when he was a smudge.
Hi, Chris! I just emailed you about a blog contest but I wanted to thank you for posting about all the blog contests out there. I’m afraid I’m guilty of reading and not commenting and that’s terrible because I love getting comments!
The lamp is a neat idea but I’m afraid my books would knock it over more often than not. I don’t read many paperbacks anymore..old eyes don’t like little print.
Aww, the LOLkitten rulz!
So many links! I almost forgot to comment.
Are you doing the Chunkster challenge?
I need an eye adjustment. I thought it said Delusion Day. He-hee.
And the handful of kitteh? Splort!
Paranormal ,erm, barbs? Ick! As for the cute burn…..AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!! Sorry I haven’t been by lately. I can’t beleive what life has been throwing at me. busy!
I’ll re-delurk, since I don’t comment as much as I used to. (Hmmm…wonder why?
(giggle) I have visions of someone having a bad experience and stopping everything to whip out their portable emergency Tetris.
The cute burn reminded me of Katie when she first came here.
Oh no! Has the pink feather toy fallen apart already?
I don’t lurk, I meander around the edges and pat kitties on the head.
We are going to be having an HD box hooked up on inaguration day. So hopefuly by noon I can see some High Definition President.
I’m delurking, it’s delightful, I’m delirious!
Oh, come on, not a lurker, I comment here and there!
I need tips in black cat photography now that a black kitten has taken up residence at our house….amazingly difficult (though she does contrast with the wood floors, unlike the orange cat).
I love that article on the Tetris (heard it first from another friend)…I’m down with that – Tetris is so my video game crack!
I came here from Wendy Knits.
I didn’t really think I was using the library more because of the economy, but we are selling our condo at one of the worst times to do so and needed to pack up a lot of stuff to make it more showable. That was a lot of bookshelves, so we are borrowing books rather than buying them.
And, umm, I decided I wanted to read Twilight to see what all the hubbub was about and got stuck just after the glitter vampire. So bad!
Great links, as always! I didn’t get to comment yesterday as my internet wonked out.
Happy Delurking day!!!
I suppose I am one of your infrequent commenters
I’m also a day late — bloglines has been really letting me down lately with the feed updates.
well, I’m a day late, but I’m still delurking. Thanks for all the interesting tidbits!
awwwh May – I know. Sometimes the toy pieces just get downright pathetic, don’t they!
purr purr .. Miss Em
Happy Belated Destalking, er Delurking Day! I’m sorry I’m late. I’m late for EVERYTHING. Except movies, oddly.
I did start tetris after a bad breakup in college. I just downloaded onto my phone. Maybe I need to play it while I’m working toward tenure and feeling inadequate (or maybe I should go to industry–to bad jobs are not stable right now).
Yeah!! THanks for the GoGear contest link–I actually won!!!
