In which Jeanne conducts an experiment involving Mayhem and knitting

Congrats to elaing8, who won the copy of Deadly Obsession by Kris Norris!

It turns out that for years, Jeanne has believed I stage those knitting pictures (well, back when I had regular knitting pictures!) in which Mayhem sniffs, gnaws, or lounges about on every single piece of knitting I place on the floor. Jeanne decided she needed to see for herself what really happened when knitting is placed on my living room floor.

So, when she was visiting recently, she waited until there weren’t any kitties in the living room, got up from her chair, and placed her gorgeous sock on the floor. Before she made it back to the chair, Mayhem appeared!

“Hey, what’s up? Did I hear knitting hit the floor?” -Mayhem

“Oh, look at that. Where did this stripey sock come from? Mom, I know you’re not knitting much of anything these days.” -Mayhem

(Ouch!)

“That’s it? Where’s the other sock? Where are the knitting needles? I like it best when there are knitting needles to chew.” -Mayhem

Anything else to add, Jeanne?? 🙂

  1. Congrats elaing8!

My theory is…May is psychic! She knows when there is knitting about. Or the more boring theory – she’s a cat, and cats are curious and narcissistic, and thus want to be on or in whatever you’re doing 🙂

  2. LOL! It’s like when I make tuna salad. All I have to do is think about making tuna salad and suddenly I have a cat wrapping itself around my legs. Or if I’m thinking about knitting (I do occasionally:)), I suddenly have a cat in my lap. Doesn’t matter where she is.

  3. Ooo, nice socks Jeanne!

That’s what happens with Atticus and Malcolm when it comes to cheese. I just have to place my hand on the cheese drawer in the fridge, and they may be asleep on the other side of the house, but before I can pull it out – they’re parked right behind me.

  4. Jeanne – I like those socks! Chris has my address. 😉

This is too funny – I love that Mayhem proved you right. But – wasn’t Chaos interested?

  5. Well that answers that question. Do you think it applies for a tree falling in the forest, too? Only May can hear it?

  6. Now there is an idea. You could solicit (not that you would need to try hard) other people’s knitting to add more knitting content to your blog. But don’t ask me. My content is sparse enough as it is even though I’ve been working on the same two pairs of socks all month long.

  7. It was uncanny how quickly she arrived. But the question is, would she have shown up simply because she heard us moving around and giggling in the living room?

  8. We probably also mentioned her name. To be a true test, I should simply toss my knitting item onto the floor without moving from my chair, and without mentioning her name or changing the tone of our conversation at all. That’s what I’ll do the next time I’m over.

  9. I want those socks! 🙂

In my house it’s changing the sheets that draws one of the cats out. Just making a bed in the morning apparently doesn’t do it for him, but break out clean sheets? I don’t know what he hears to know this, and he could be coming from anywhere in the house, but he’s on the bed in a flash rolling on the bottom sheet before it’s even fully on. Apparently it would just be completely unacceptable for anyone’s sheets not to have his scent on them.

  10. Dang! I’ve been away too long. I have MISSED your blog posts. Had to go back and read all of them. 🙂 Beginning, of course, with the bat. I know this is OT but I really, really, really like your walls.

  11. wicked ears or something, right? OH MY about the bat~! (we had a rabies thing with a bat, so they are not my favorite critters anymore, I blathered about it years ago, even has its own category in the blog sideline)

Hey, do you remember the website where you can “borgify” a photo? You linked to it a couple years back, but I couldn’t find it. (get those rusty wheels turning…)

  12. Such s clever kitteh! I think she’s looking for a photo op – she knows she looks beautiful all the time, but next to Jeanne’s gorgeous sock she’s stunning. 😉

In a sort of related note…all six cats were nowhere to be found tonight and then I laid out my fabric so I could cut out a shirt. Apparently 100% cotton emits a kitty siren song like no other. In under thirty seconds, I had four out of six cats rolling around on my fabric snorting and pawing at it like it was high grade catnip.

  13. Love it! No kidding, maybe you should teach her to knit…

But no knitting for you? That’s the real shocker! 🙂 I’ve been wondering what happened to the ongoing parade of socks and bibs.

  14. sounds like a study you should get a grant for guys. the government gives grants for lesser things 🙂

Jeanne I agree, next time it’ll have to be a toss and no noise. Cats have uncanny perception of giggling.
