Readers, readers on the internetz, who’s the softest kitteh of them all? (or at least on our street) [CONTEST CLOSED]

So a couple of weeks ago, Carolyn and I were sitting and talking at Chiang Mai Thai over drinks. One of us claimed to have the softest kitteh evah and the other immediately said, “No! Not possible, because I have the softest kitteh evah!” (Strangely, neither of us can remember which of us made that first provocative statement. Apparently we both make that claim on a regular basis, even without the influence of alcohol.)

Anyway, we’ve decided that the only reasonable way to settle this is to have a contest. (Don’t think about the flogic there too much…) On Sunday, December 6, the arguing judging will commence and Carolyn and I will be walking back and forth between our homes to assess the comparative softness of Mayhem and Oblio.

What’s your part in all of this? Leave a comment on this post or at The Thrillionth Page by 10 am CST, December 6, stating which kitteh you believe will be judged softest. (You could also vote for a draw, in case things get ugly. Carolyn thinks there’s going to be a clear winner. I, however, am not so sure.) When we’ve come to a decision or a draw, we’ll take all the comments with that answer and select a lucky winner, who will receive a mass market paperback.

So please make sure that your comment also includes the title of a mass market paperback (mystery, scifi, fantasy, urban fantasy, or paranormal romance) that’s available at Uncle Hugo’s Science Fiction Bookstore or Uncle Edgar’s Mystery Bookstore. (You can poke around their site to see what they have. If there’s a title you’ve been desperately seeking but don’t see on their site, list it first and then list a second title, just in case. Maybe the teetering stacks of used paperbacks will yield a surprise.)

And of course, make sure you leave a valid email address in the comment form and can receive email from stumblingoverchaos.com (check those spam filters, kids!). I reply to 99.9% of the comments you leave (0.01% margin of error just in case), so if you’ve never received an email back from me after leaving a comment… *insert music o’ doom*

Um, I’m pretty sure this isn’t some sort of “Highlander: There can be only one” to the death thing. *makes note to clarify that with Carolyn toot sweet*

“Oblio claims what?! That he’s the softest kitteh of all?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It’s not true! I am a panther princess! I am the softest!” -Mayhem

  1. Firstly I am a little worried there will be bloodshed all round..

If it’s a tie things will get ugly and if Mayhem does not win there will definately be bloodshed – so all around some action to be had on the alloted day…

Can I give Mayhem half a vote and the reserve the other half till I look at the other contender to the throne…

Can I ask – does Mayhem and Oblio even want that title anyhow? – or is this just the trapping of two book hauling hussies with too much time on their hands…?

    *insert music oรขโ‚ฌโ„ข doom*…..

  2. There is NO DOUBT in my mind that only Mayhem could be the clear winner. How could anyone but a panther princess win the softest kitteh eveh contest, pray tell!?!
I just blew through all of Louise Penny’s books (5) and love them dearly.

  3. But what about Dolly? SHE’s the softest kitteh in the world. So – I’m thinking it will be a draw between Mayhem and Oblio, and you and Carolyn will need to come to Iowa to actually touch the softest kitteh.

I keep meaning to track down Carola Dunn’s Daisy Dalrymple books, so you could send me one of those.

  4. I’m allergic to kittehs, and I can’t remember the last time I petted one. ๐Ÿ™

Good luck to all involved. Looks like it might be close.

  5. I have to say that May looks pretty darn soft. I’ll have to go with her, though I haven’t seen a picture of the other kitteh. The softest cat I’ve ever touched is Birch, which is a gorgeous long haired tabby. So, pretty!

My library doesn’t have Industrial Magic by Kelley Armstrong, so I’m a bit stalled out on reading that series (if I care about reading them in order, which right now I do).

  6. Since these are my online babies… I will go with my May! She is the softest and cutest around!! And I am LMAO at Erotic’s comments!
Just look at my baby!!! She is adorable!!!
I hope you had a great holiday Chris and a great weekend!!!! And I hope Monday is going wonderful!!

  7. I have to vote for Mayhem – Black Kitties RULE!!! My Gidget and Gizmo will back that up!!!

My library is patiently waiting for Skin Trade by Laurell K. Hamilton.

  8. Of COURSE Mayhem is the softest kitteh ever! How could I even vote for another kitteh after all these years?? As for books.. I could definitely go for a copy of Neil Gaiman’s ‘Stardust’ because I’d like to see how different the book is from the movie (which I loved..)

  9. This will lead to tears and/or bloodshed I am certain. Hopefully though a head will not be loped off.

And does it matter what portion of the kitteh is judged, because I have found no matter what animal the softest fur always lies directly behind the ears.

  10. Ok, CJ’s cat is cute but yours… looks just like my cat I had 20+ years ago. Her name was JD and she was the runt of the little. No one wanted her so I nabbed her and she was the bestest cat.

My vote’s for Mayhem. (sorry CJ and Oblio)

  11. No, *I* have the softest kitteh evah! His name is Blue, he’s a Russian Blue, and he feels like a plush silk scarf in your hands. None of my other cats feel anything like hims. Sowwy. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. It will be a draw, each cat declared the softest of their respective homes! Should my name be drawn: Lackey, Mercedes (editor)
    “Valdemar: Changing the World
Sixteen original stories of Valdemar”, please!

  13. I’m partial to May because I’ve been visiting here for awhile plus I lurve black cats. And the black cats I have known were always so soft. Yeah, May gets my vote. ๐Ÿ˜€

If I were lucky enough to win, I would pick Guardians #5: Demon Forged by Meljean Brook.

This is a cool contest!!! Go Mayhem!!

  14. my Vote is for Mayhem. Coz She reminds me of my old cat “BOBO” ๐Ÿ™‚

i really like to read one of Carolyn Haines book : WishBones or Touched, either one is fine for me.

  15. It HAS to be Mayhem.. the one and only… (sorry Chaos, but boys just aren’t that soft).
And as for the mass market paperback title – just pick one from your stash (I loved the jrWard series)

  16. Since Rosie is not part of the voting (tabby silk, that girl has), and May has that velvety fur just like one of our previous cats, named Velvet, I vote for the Panther Princess.

If I were to be so lucky as to win a book, I would choose one of M.C. Beaton’s Hamish Macbeth books. “Death of a (fill in the blank).”

  17. I understand that your parameters of “softest evah” only cover the greater Mpls area. I say this because I have lived with two exceedingly soft kitties, one double-coated Russian Blue and one orange / white tabby with fur as fluffy as a cotton ball.

That said, I’m going to throw my vote to Mayhem.

  18. Well my Nick and Nora have the softest coats in Daly City, but for Minneapolis, I would have to say Mayhem, because she is a girl and girl kitties rule, or so says Nora.

  19. tough call not being there to fuzzy the kittehs myself but living with both a black kitteh and an orange kitteh I have to give Mayhem my vote. Oblio does make for an awful cute runner up though!

  20. I’d have to go with Mayhem! Love black cats, and they look so soft!

I would love to read A Vampire’s Claim by Joey W. Hill

  21. I am posting the same comment on both places to make sure everybody reads this !V ! !

    AAWW ! Come on ladies.

Don’t argue this time of the year.

Lets call it a draw and see what happens in the New Year.

Come on, get with the season vibe.
