Abundance abounds

Please think good thoughts for little Mayhem today, as she’s going to the vet for her “surgery.” Thank you! I have assured her that she will still be all girl, but I’m not sure she believes me…

My Knitters’ Coffee Swap package arrived last week! My pal was Professor KnitWit, who sent me a very fun box of goodies. Gluten-free cookies (if you like gingersnaps, these are great), some lovely latte-colored alpaca, espresso-roasted coffee from The Sensuous Bean in NYC (let’s just pause to admire that name – and you haven’t even tasted the coffee, which is nice), and some delicious dark chocolate. Thank you, Professor! 🙂

If you’re curious about what I sent, you can find the details here. Here are the songs that were on the Coffee Mix cd:

Greg Brown – Good Morning Coffee
Mississippi John Hurt – Coffee Blues
The Galactic Heroes – Coffee and Pastries
John Gorka – St. Caffeine
The Jayhawks – Five Cups of Coffee
Claude Gray – I’ll Have Another Cup of Coffee, Then I’ll Go
The Mountain Goats – Woke Up New (ok, ok, this is the only song without a coffee theme in the title – here’s the excerpt that got it included: “The first time I made coffee for just myself, I made too much of it. But I drank it all, just cause you hate it when I let things go to waste.”)
Jars of Clay – Coffee Song
Ink Spots – Java Jive
Marlene Dietrich – You’re the Cream in My Coffee
Tom T. Hall – Don’t Forget the Coffee, Billy Joe
The Andrews Sisters – Proper Cup of Coffee
Lefty Frizzell – Cigarettes and Coffee Blues
Mandy Patinkin – Coffee in a Cardboard Cup
Gordon Lightfoot – Second Cup of Coffee
Brook Benton – Another Cup of Coffee
Guy Clark – Instant Coffee Blues
The Andrews Sisters – Coffee in Brazil
The Peanuts – Coffee Rhumba
The Boswell Sisters – Coffee in the Morning and Kisses in the Night
Peggy Lee – Black Coffee
Emmett Miller – You’re the Cream in My Coffee
John Mccutcheon – Cup of Coffee
Greg Brown – Smell of Coffee
Bob Dylan – One More Cup of Coffee
Ella Mae Morse – Forty Cups of Coffee

Many thanks also to KnittyMama for creating and coordinating this swap. I had a blast putting the package together and am looking forward to another coffee swap. And if there’s another Knitters’ Chocolate Swap, please, someone tell me about it!!

I also won a contest over at For My Next Project – I was Kat’s 1000th commenter. She sent some nifty cat toys (May adores Black Slinky Mouse), some stunning laceweight alpaca silk, and a tasty maple candy. Thanks, Kat!

Just a Knit Wit sent me a birthday package! She sent me some of her lovely stitchmarkers, birthday buttons, cat and yarn stamps, cute post its (including one shaped like a “C” that didn’t make it into this picture), a skein of Silk Garden, and a wonderful cabled Silk Garden hat! Thank you, Kelly!! (No, the kitten wasn’t part of the package.)

My Knit Sock Kit Swap pattern, Elspeth, also sent me a birthday/coffee package – I was curious about the famous Peet’s Coffee, so she sent me some, along with some Peet’s chocolate (with coffee in it), black Bernat sock yarn (which I haven’t seen before – the color’s perfect!), and a lovely sock pattern. Thank you, Elspeth! (Even Chaos had to check it out.)

  1. Meezer is telling me that I have to send soothing best wishes to May on her behalf. It’s really an easy surgery and there’s no question May will still be all girly! Just ask the Blonde Bombshell!

And for mom, just remember she’s probably pull her own stitches out! Most of the little gals do…
    😉
    (((hugs)))

  2. uuummmm coffee, chocolate, and yarn. A perfect package. A little surgery will slow May down ….. for a day or so lol. It’ll give Chaos time to make sure she’s washed up correctly too.

  3. LOVE the song list! You should put it up as a playlist over at iTunes!

All those packages – what fun!

Here’s hoping for 24 hours and Ms. May won’t even know she’s been tinkered with!

  4. Oh, Gandalf is sending you big snuggles and kitty head butts Mayhem! 🙁 He’s scheduled for Friday…

I agree…coffee, chocolate and yarn! Could not be a more perfect gift box!

  5. when we took Katie in for her surgey, she was a happy cat, when she got done, she was pissed.

Maybe that’s why she touched my face this morning with her CLAWS to wake me up. She was trying to tell me to send her to MN on the next plane to warn May about ‘the visit’.

Personally, I perfer to be woken up by Zoe, who licks my eyelids to wake me up. Syd, of course, can sleep through an earthquke (yes, she did for real).

  6. May –

Sorry to hear you’ll be out of commission for a few days. When I went in for the “snip snip,” I yelled and screamed so much the next morning that Mom could hear me from the lobby. Then I went home and slept on her pillow for about 16 hours.

Tell Chaos to knock something over for you while you recover…

    Cricket

  7. Oh, lots of nice stuff!

May will be in my thoughts and Katie’s thoughts. Katie wants May to be careful. When she went in for the surgery, they took out half of her insides.

  8. Numberguy (Trek’s H) says: “Gonna be it-ified, eh?!?”

You’ll be just fine, May — and remember to bite the Big Kitty when you get home…

    😉

  9. Oh, that coffee CD is brilliant! I always want to do theme mixes like that, but I either don’t know DH’s music collection enough or we don’t have a large enough one (kind of hard to believe that one)…

  10. Greg Brown is on your song list! He is one of my favorites. I see him every year at the local folk festival. I’m going to put on his cd right now!

  11. Dearest May~

Don’t worry May, you’ll be fine. When I had my surgery I felt better as soon as the anesthesia wore off! I gave my mom a heart attack by running all over the house, jumping on and off furniture, and licking my stitches excessively! It was a lot of fun… watching her chase after me, trying to contain me…. Good times, good times.

Anyway, I also had some claws removed (mom didn’t like the game I invented of taking a running leap onto her antique table, sliding across it on the table cloth, and then digging my nails into the wood at that last minute to keep from flying off. Jeesh! That human has no idea how to have fun!) Are you having any claws removed? If you are, I’ve got the best sleeping position for you, I still use it: Sleep on your back with all four paws in the air! No pressure on the stitches, and humans think it’s cute!

    Wishing you a speedy recovery,

    Madelyn

  12. Lucy and Willie send their regards to Mayhem. They both want to point out that the little “snip snip” surgery doesn’t change the fact that cats are superior beings, even without the ability to reproduce.

Mmmmm, Peets coffee. And I love your coffee cd mix.

  13. Mayhem–hang in there little one and don’t bite your stitches(mine were always trying to do that). Have your mama give you a good back scratch from me and my kitties.

  14. AWww poor May. I was so happy with Basil that he didn’t have to have any of the “procedures” but then I’ve contantly worried over 7 years that he’d get egg bound and died, but since I’m pretty sure now he’s a boy, we didn’t even really have to worry about that.

I always feel bad for the girl animas though becuase their surgery is so much more invasive then the boys.

Sending good kitty thoughts her way.

    What lovely goodies you’ve received.

  15. We’ve got our paws crossed for May! She might need a padded room when she’s coming around ;o) I’m sure you’ll have tales to tell!

Very nice haul! – the brown yarn looks very yummy indeed.

  16. Sending good thoughts to May!

And the coffee cd? How great! About the only song I know is the Andrews Sisters one . . . it doesn’t have one of my other favorites, though. “Coffee Break” from the How To Succeed soundtrack…. that always makes me laugh!

  17. Hi! I’m a new reader, so first *warm thoughts to Mayhem and Mom*!

Lorinda suggested I mention to you my current blog contest for a brand-new set of Denise Interchangeable Needles… stop on by, spread the word, whatever. *grin*

Now I’ve got to go look for more cute kitty pictures!

    Anne.

  18. Poor little May, I hope all went well with her spaying today. She’ll be thankful in the long run.

You’ve gotten a lot of goodies lately! Stop eating the cookies and chocolate long enough to get some WIPs to show us!

  19. ohhh, poor Mayhem – we had our kitties done a year ago – and it took ages for them to heal. Warm water with epsom salts – dip a washcloth in it -and then hold it on her belly.. it really helped to soothe and decrease inflamation.
you may alos have to wrap her in an ace bandage so she doesn’t ‘remove’ her stitches (as bnoth my girls did). yuck. She’ll be all better soon, I hope.
