Breaking sock “rules” and providing a negative image

Jen has some additional tips on taking pictures of cats that you might find helpful.

The Obsidian Kitten has written a brilliant treatise called The Anatomy of the Feline Unit. Highly recommended if you want to laugh yourself silly.

You know how the Barbara Walker treasuries are full of great stitch patterns, but sometimes that’s hard to tell from the small blurry black-and-white pictures? Check out the Walker Treasury Project, where volunteers are knitting and photographing full color swatches to supplement the books.

Reading Update
Trap Door by Sarah Graves. This latest Home Repair Is Homicide mystery was ok, but a bit confusing at times in the way that it set up for (I can only guess and assume) the next installment of the series.
A Single Eye by Susan Dunlap. This is a brand new mystery series featuring stuntwoman Darcy Mott. The first book is set at a retreat in a Zen monastery in northern California. (Boggles the mind at the niches this fills, doesn’t it, Kristi?!) I enjoyed Dunlap’s Jill Smith (Berkeley homicide detective) series and was sad when the series ended several years ago.

Here’s my entry for Maryse’s “sock rules” contest (post a picture of a sock/shoe/clothing combination that spectacularly breaks her friend’s “socks should match your shoes and/or pants” rule before February 15 and you could be randomly selected to win a prize):

Ultraviolet purple socks with black stripes. Hmm, not really too far out, come to think of it, since I was wearing black shoes and a black sweater… Ok, how about this?

No black in those socks! Speaking of no black…

No, no, you’re not at Cabin Cove and that isn’t the lovely Miss Lulu! That’s Chaos’ brother, Diablo. Maybe only the eyes give their relationship away… What do you think? (Besides that Diablo has exceptionally clean ears – he still lives with his mother!)

“What do you mean, brother?! I don’t remember any brother! He better not come to visit…” -C

  1. Diablo’s gorgeous. A good friend of mine has two white kitties and they are like, so pure and white, like Diablo.

I love the socks, both pairs! I had my toe socks on the other day…it was so cold each toe needed its own little cocoon.

  2. LOL @ black sheep! Diablo is adorable and he looks like he could be Mr. Boo’s cousin. And yes, Diablo does have exceptionally clean ears – and no eye boogies!

  3. awwwww too bad they didn’t visit each other it would be so cute to see Diablo walk in, high “paw” Chaos and say what’s up bro!
I love those jaywalkers and i’m so proud of you that you will wear them!!!

  4. Chris- I like your style- the Minnie Mouse shoes are great.

Isn’t it interesting that Daiblo and Chaos are exact opposites in color? They do have the same face, don’t they?

  5. Well of course Diablo will have clean ears if he lives with his mother. 🙂 You can see the family resemblance between Chaos and Diablo. Great socks / shoes pics!

  6. That’s too cute. I seriously thought I was losing my mind… Couldn’t remember how I got to Cabin Cove LOL! But then I realized that Diablo has green eyes and the world went back up-right for me. 😉

  7. Wow – that second pair of socks might have made me lose my retinas! Completely in awe of those beautiful profile pictures there — light and whiskers and the lens of the eye … Diablo is spoiled in his fishie collar too ;o)

  8. Wow. The Socks are AMAZING! And Diablo & Chaos? Well – talk about your negative/positive photos…Not only the black/white, but the left/right profiles! lolol!
And the Anatomy of a Feline Unit is hysterical, thank you for pointing me there!
Today’s post was a good one!
    (((hugs)))

  9. Awww Diablo is beautiful. Did you watch the kitten half-time show of the puppy bowl, there was a little white and gray kitten there that had devil eyes. He was so funny.

Okay now that first picture, your socks/shoes went very well. But the second picture, now those are some get noticed socks! I love them.

I should take a picture of how my socks never match each other let alone my shoes.

  10. Haha, I was just imagining what it would be like if Diablo lived with you…he and Chaos could be your good and bad angels! Although, with a name like Diablo, he might not be suited for the good angel part 😉

  11. What a fabulous idea the Walker Treasury Project is!

Love the sock and shoe shots. I have to do that, myself.

And wonderful pics of Chaos and Diablo. They look like two sides of the same coin.

  12. Okay, I really like those bright socks!

(I was such a boring sock person before I found the world of handknit socks. I would have never dreamed about owning a pair like that, but now…)

  13. Whoa! They are mirror image negative images of each other! Hmmm, deb, which is good and evil? I’d say the two evil twins? They have the same profile! And thanks for the barbara walker link, that’s a great resource.

  14. Diablo is a beautiful cat. I love your very bright socks. Granted, I probably won’t be tipeing this toowll kause i an’t see but, you know.

  15. And here I thought my Irish Nacho socks were crazy…I think those zigzags gave me vertigo! lol (Actually, my grandma made some afghans like that…dizzying!)

I looove the pics of Diablo…those two are kinda like those black and white spy guys from Mad Magazine! *giggle*

And thanks for the mention of my post…I think there may be a sequel in the works, as my source tells me the Feline Units are soon to be preparing some top-secret Battle Manouever Preparedness Training Ops…

  16. Great socks! I’ve got to try those Jaywalkers, even though I’m not quite over the thrill of being able to do “plain vanilla” ones. And thanks for mentioning Trap Door — you’re right, the old-book part was a set-up. I’m working on the payoff right now…
