Y is for…

YesterYear!

But first, a message from our sponsor… (Ok, no sponsor, but I’ve always wanted to say that.) Christine of the Pointy Sticks podcast is having a contest. So far all I know about it is that the details are in the podcast and the deadline is December 21.

Ok, back to YesterYear… Yikes. Apparently it’s never too early to start your baby knitting?! Don’t worry about those sharp pointy sticks. What could possibly go wrong?

For humanity’s sake, please don’t make your baby wear lederhosen!

“Please don’t make me wear those lederhosen! I’ll be good!”

Because lederhosen? Seem to bring out the wickedness within… Look out, dog!

“I’m so nervous, suddenly…” -dog
“I am so going to have nightmares now.” -M

  1. I wish I had those Lederhosen for my kids when they were babies!!!! I bet Chaos and May are hiding in case you start knitting them and using them for models.

  2. Poor kiddies! And Poor May! 🙂 Forget Yesteryear…where were you yesterDAY?? I’m so used to your posting schedule, I was really starting to worry!

  3. The “puppy that visits” could use a pair of lederhosens! Just don’t forget to put a hole in for the tail. Thanks. I’ll be expecting it in the mail 😉

  4. now, see, i think they’re adorable. i wouldn’t dress a kid in them today because well they’d get beat up at the play ground. but there was a time when this was what little kids wore. little boys wore lederhosen type short pants. i know. because i’m old enough to remember this.

and how cute are the little girl outfits?

  5. May is going to have nightmares…Chris:”Great, I just finished the hand knit lederhosen….hmmm, who can I get to try them on and model them for me?” NOOOOoooooOOoooooOO!!!

  6. Chris- I think they used to call those bloomer thingies “soakers”. And since there were no disposable diapers then, it reallt doesn’t bear thinking about, does it.
    However, the Lederhosen- hmmmm………

  7. Man oh man, how did we survive growing up in the 70’s, huh? What with all the hideous clothes and pointy sticks for toys! Those pictures are scary, Baby May, that’s for sure…

I just heard the other day that the reason they no long make Jack In the Boxes is because too many kids were getting whacked in the face by them! I laughed, anyway…

  8. At first I thought that was going to be a picture of you as a baby!
What was the NASCAR mystery?? Just because I go at 350 mph doesn’t mean I like it! I am thinking I need to take a months vacation to some slow paced locale where it’s cool enough to knit outside! No bugs, no humidity, no cold, just nice gentle breezes and warm sun. Paradise!

  9. heh heh heh. May the nightmares never go away when there are so many vintage ugly patterns out there.

My hubby has a lederhosen apron, it’s hilarious.

  10. I’ve decided that funny clothes for kids is a grandmother’s prerogative. I’ve actually looked at some of those cutesy kind of outfits my mother selected for my kids many years ago. Maybe it’s just fond memories, but it scares me. Cutesy is really not my style. Do you think it comes with grandma status?

    Love the pics!

  11. weird that may has a larger white spot on her chest… just like MY other black cat! (who’s name is danger… danger and mayhem… cosmo and chaos). I think black cats have the best names.

  12. Great vintage pictures! Ooh – and I see what CarrieK sees about the whiskers. Is May taking care of her own washing duties now to keep Chaos from eating them?

  13. Good freakin’ grief!?! Why would someone subject their poor child to wear such ridiculous clothes? Why would someone waste their time on it? Eesh, people are weird! How are May’s stitches doing?
