Saturday sky: Uptown Art Fair

Here’s the thing – if you live in Uptown Minneapolis, you dread the annual Uptown Art Fair because streets are blocked off, traffic crazy, parking nonexistent, and crowds formidable. Today was no exception as I ventured two blocks into the madness to return some library books at Walker Library (exciting library moment – I actually had a brief conversation with Cute Library Guy!).

Anyway, I present to you – Saturday skies of the Uptown Art Fair. First – the warning sign:

Next, the Uptown icons – the Uptown Theater and Calhoun Square (middle back), with bonus airplane! (Remember, you can click on any picture to make it bigger.)

Want to get a better idea of the crowds?

The sky over the Uptown Transit Station as I headed home again.

And an amusing billboard (plus sky, of course) at the corner of Hennepin and 28th:

  1. Once during the art fair my son ended up having to go to urgent care. The only branch of his pediatrician’s office that had Sunday urgent care was, of course, uptown. I thought I would never find a parking spot. Then I had to drag a sick two year old through the crowds. It turned me off to the whole art fair experience. As to your comment today, Chaos and the BHFH should never meet it would be bad for yarn everywhere.

  2. Love the billboard, love the art fair, hate the crowds. It was nuts when I lived in that neighborhood 30+ years ago. I can’t imagine it now.

I am also greatly amused by the Gold’n Plump chicken billboards, too. There’s one at the left of the stroganoff sign. They’re very plain, just a drawing of a chicken and a tag line. Like, “Hormones are for teenagers.” Or, “Ingredients:” and then the chicken.

  3. Yay for the cute library guy convo! Boo for crowds! (although that crowd looks like a normal quiet day around here). I love the Art Fair warning sign.

  4. A cute library guy is a good sign. I’ll bet you’ll never have an overdue book.;)

Hey folks, I know it’s crowded, but we don’t even have art fairs in New York. Boo.

  5. There should be a way to enjoy an art fair without having to thrash through the crowds. It looks like a beautiful day with a Cute Library Guy bonus. 🙂
