Ice scream socks

Interesting – some pet shelters are using a feline personality test as part of their cat placement efforts. You can see the list of nine “feline-alities” here. I think May’s primarily a Party Animal, with maybe a bit of Personal Assistant thrown in. Chaos seems most like the Executive, but none of the types really address how much he loves me and dislikes almost everyone else – including growling when the phone rings, and hissing and growling at visitors…

Now there’s LOLCAT IRL – I would probably be laughing too hard to walk or take a picture if I saw that mural!

Hmm – you can buy a knitted dissected frog or rat on etsy. If you’re feeling more DIY, you can buy a pattern and knit the frog yourself. Who woulda thunk it?

Wow, it’s obviously been too long since I did a reading update!

Reading Update
Strangers in Death by J.D. Robb. Mmm… Roarke…
Maiden Rock: A Claire Watkins Mystery by Mary Logue. Claire is a deputy sheriff in western Wisconsin, by Lake Pepin. This mystery was primarily about meth and meth addiction.
The Outlaw Demon Wails (Rachel Morgan Book 6) by Kim Harrison. The sixth book in the urban fantasy series about witch Rachel Morgan has some really shocking developments!
Dates from Hell by Kim Harrison, Lynsay Sands, Kelley Armstrong, and Lori Handeland. If you’re a Kim Harrison fan, this is worth reading for the prequel to Dead Witch Walking.
Like a Charm by Candace Havens. The previous books in this series have all focused on the witch Bronwyn. This one tells the story of another Sweet, Texas, resident who isn’t a witch but rather a sort of ultimate librarian.
Ill Wind, Heat Stroke, Chill Factor, Windfall, Firestorm, and Thin Air by Rachel Caine. I read Caine’s Weather Warden series straight through, in about five days – it’s clever, compelling urban fantasy with nary a vampire or werewolf to be found.
A Bone To Pick: An Aurora Teagarden Mystery by Charlaine Harris. The second Aurora Teagarden mystery is another pleasant sort of read. (And completely paranormal free!)
Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips. What if the Greek gods, somewhat dwindled in power, shared a house in modern day London?

Knitting Update
Back in August, I started a pair of plain socks from Trekking 126. I actually finished knitting them ages and ages ago, but just couldn’t bring myself to sew down the picot edge. Finally, I ripped back the picot and knitted some nice simple 2×2 ribbing. Ahhh…

“Oh, look – more socks. Well, I guess they are sort of stripey…” -Mayhem

“…so I shall deign to grace them with my presence.” -Mayhem

*sigh* “I suppose no other socks will ever compare to the wonder of the original stripey socks. How annoying.” -Mayhem

  1. Hmmm, they left out the Neurotic, Self-centered Queen-of-All-She-Surveys “feline-ality” (a non-word that I find very annoying, I might add).

  2. Hmmm…well Mayhem, if we could see the original stripey socks, maybe we could compare! Just sayin’…

(Now, why is that my so called “striped” socks don’t turn out quite as nicely?!)

  3. Chris- Love the wall- that’s great.

Did they make you dissect a frog in grade 8? I couldn’t do it- I was totally repulsed.

So why would you want to knit one?

  4. I’ve seen this pattern before (knitted dissected frog) and I really want to make one for the Life Sciences (what we used to call Biology) teacher at our school. Although they don’t dissect anything in her class I’m sure that she’d love it.

I love the neopolitan socks! Ribbed edges stay up better imo.

  5. I love the X’d out eyes on the rat! Brilliant. I wonder if they would have let me substitute out the real thing in Biology. I bet the knitted version smells a whole lot better than the real deal. Bleh.

  6. LOL–the phone! Sure beats biting every man who walks through the door.

They didn’t mention anything about heirarchy/order of arrival.

Was May looking for ADDIs by any chance?

  7. Cyra had a feline-ality profile when I got her from the shelter. Completely false advertising: they had her labeled as a sidekick, and IRL she’s a terrorist. But I guess there’s no label for that.

  8. I find it interesting that cats, who supposedly have nine lives, also seem to have nine personalities (one per life, perhaps?). For several years I’ve been a student of Parelli Natural Horsemanship, and there are only four horse-analities: combinations of Left or Right Brained and Extrovert or Introvert. Methinks they might do a better job of placement if they did it this way, because I couldn’t place any of my five cats directly into one lone felineality group.

  9. I guess having a purrsonality test to see what kind of cat would do well with you is ok, but I know they own me so I figure *I’m* the one that has to adapt! LOL

Great socks BTW. That’s the reason I dont do picot edging. LOVE the look, too lazy to hem.

  10. I’ve got to remember that Trekking color number — I love it, but whenever I’m standing there, looking at Trekking, I can’t figure out which one is the “Brach’s candy” colorway.

Simon is definitely Leader of the Band, and Dolly’s a Love Bug (as long as I’m sitting on her couch, not my chair). Harley’s harder — mostly a Secret Admirer, I think, except no lap time — just time sitting behind me, playing with my hair!

  11. Hez is a Sidekick w/Issues. Maybe.

Gods Behaving Badly does sound good.

Those stripey socks are cute! They would go fabulously w/my new shoes. [sigh]. I’m going to actually have to knit socks.

  12. Have you seen the knitted digestive system? I wanted to know if it was a hands on thing where you could put a ping pong ball in one end and use your hands as peristalsis to get it to the other end. My friend wanted to knit/sew a body organ shirt for her dh’s doc, so he could use it to explain things to patients… with removable parts of course, because they are things that he often cuts out. Have you read “The Beast of Noor” by Janet Lee Carey? A YA book, but good.

  13. I think Katie is part Party Animal and part Secret Admirer. She likes to check people out from a distance before she warms up to them. Then she’s a party animal.

Poor May. It’s just not the same as the original stripey socks.

  14. It’s ice cream all around! You have ice cream socks…I have ice cream mitred squares! Does that makes us fraternal twinnies?

  15. I love that link to cat descriptions!
    I suspect mine are a Private I and a Secret Admirer 🙂
great socks btw – I’m not such a fan of picot edges either.
Have you seen that the second book in the Nora Roberts newest series is out, called the Hollow (follows Blood Brothers) It’s pretty entertaining.

  16. so funny that it took that long for you to finish the socks b/c you didn’t want to sew down the picot edge. Oh well, at least they are finished now.
