Kerry nicely summed up our local weather right now. We aren’t getting the blizzards that other parts of the state are getting, but the windchill is -41°F as I type this. As Kerry noted, when your home goes from the +41°F of Monday to this, it makes very startling booming noises as it contracts.
I’ve been working on another pair of Kristi’s Flatiron Socks from Great Adirondack Silky Sock (color Nightshades). Please ignore that furry bit wandering through my first photo. It wasn’t there when I started taking the shot… This sock was going better (as in I was turning the heel) before I took these photos and realized the sock is a bit too short for my foot – and now the sock is a bit shorter, waiting for me to reknit the foot back to the heel!
“What random furry bit?! That’s me! Hmph.” -Chaos
“I’ll random furry bit you!” -Chaos
“Hey, this is a new needle flavor, not the usual Addi flavor…” -Chaos
Pretty pretty yarn! (Please ask Chaos which needles taste best – I have a cat here who wants to know…)

I think I am going to post about the weather up here in Canaduh, so I won’t tell you about it here. It’s fucking insane though, and I am home with both kiddos…plus the dog…with really no chance of getting out at all today, since I don’t have a death wish…

Thank you, Kerry and Chris, for explaining to me what those strange booming/cracking noises were that I was hearing last night. Seriously, I went outside TWICE to see what it was on the deck that the wind kept blowing over so it crashed against the house. The contraction of the house itself never occurred to me!
I would just like to add that, while it is a bone-chilling -22 degrees F. outside, my office is a toasty 49 degrees ABOVE zero F. Yikes.

Thanks, Guinifer! My mini-review of the KnitPicks – I’m not buying any more Turbos. I’m hell on them, especially the smaller sizes that I use for socks. The KnitPicks are slightly pointier, have great joins (much better than Inox), and extremely flexible cables. And at 1/3 the cost of a Turbo… 🙂
That looks like the flavor of a KnitPicks needle. I like the colors in that yarn!
We had the same thing happen, only higher temps. It was 60F yesterday, then frog-strangling storms, then down to about 19. Course that probably seems like a heat wave to you.
ooh, another KP convert. have you tried the Harmony ones yet? (I have the size 2s waiting to be tested at home.) then again, with all those teeth and claws, maybe wood isn’t the way to go at your house

I like the sock! Pretty colors in Nightshade. Do you like the yarn? I’m enjoying my skein, and my friend who gave it to me says it launders really well (she dries all her socks in the dryer!)..
Makes our 40 above pale in comparison. If it makes you feel any better I’ve just been told by my DH that we need to move to Colorado because in the next couple of decades our house is going to be under water. Great sock!
My office roof was so startling and frightening yesterday I considered going outside to make sure it wasn’t planning on caving in or – that they weren’t working on it without letting me know. I’m smarter than that though, so I sent someone else out to check. And had them start the car for me while they were at it. 🙂

Yikes! Those is claws in that sock! As a new sock knitter (yes, finally took the plunge), must ask about the pattern: toe up, what kind of heel? (Like this will mean anything to me.) I’ve made one pair and it was the Harlot’s traditional top down, flap heel, extremely pointy toe version. I’ve got some STR heavyweight that I am thinking would be really good with this pattern. And I want to try something new.
Aw, he’s comparing feet. Your cats certainly take an interest in your knitting! Sheba could’ve cared less and I think Hez fears them.

We had wind so strong here that his morning while lying in bed I could feel the house shaking when the wind gusted! It was snowing sideways. Blizzard from the ground up. Not fun to go to work in. On the bright side, it was really quiet at work….
