Working 9 to 5… ha!

Lynne is celebrating her third blogiversary with a contest! Leave her a comment (by midnight, August 24) about why you started blogging and you could win some lovely sock yarn.

Reading Update
Careful What You Wish For by Lucy Finn. A light romance about a single mom who finds a genie in the Diaper Genie… Of course the genie is sexy. Duh. 😉
The Ghost Orchid by Carol Goodman. If you haven’t read one of Goodman’s novels, lucky you! You have them to anticipate. This one’s about a medium and some mysterious events related to a seance in 1893, which come to light more than a century later when resident artists stay at the same house. Goodman blurs past and present, reality and dream, until you’re not exactly sure which is which.
The Scent of Shadows: The First Sign of the Zodiac and The Taste of Night: The Second Sign of the Zodiac by Vicki Pettersson. This series, set in Las Vegas, is about superheroes named after signs of the Zodiac, Shadow battling Light as is the way of superheroes. 🙂 It’s very involving and well-written overall, although I think there’s a major logic flaw…

Knitting Update
Friday afternoon I started another pair of socks – the 9-to-5 Socks. The name particularly amused me, since I was home early from work, resting for a bit more switch work that night – only midnight to 3 am this time! Woo-hoo! (Although rumor has it we have one more night of this stuff, sometime this week…)

I’m knitting these from Wool2Dye4 Supersock, as dyed by me in May.

Initially, May was more interested in the cord on my sock bag…

“Mmmm… rattail cord… Funny, I would’ve thought that rat tails had more flavor.” -Mayhem

“But oh, Addi cords are ever so much chewier!!” -Mayhem

  1. Yeah, I think May and Gandalf are chanelling again, because Gandalf would not stop chomping on my Addi cords last night either! Goofball…

Wow, you really did a lot on that sock!

  2. Hmmm, that Goodman book looks good! And hmmm, Margene seems to have a point-does may come out of nowhere to get these things, or are you her enabler???

  3. Such pretty blues! That yarn really looks good in the 9-to-5 pattern. You really made progress even with May trying to eat your needles! Such a goofy cat.

  4. Heh, May’s so silly.

I’ve thought about knitting the 9-to-5 pattern, too. It seems to me that my color preferences for sock yarn would look good in that pattern. And I love the way your hand-dyed yarn is knitting up! Nicely done.

  5. You’ve never seen a diaper genie have you? Even “clean” nothing good ever came out of one I promise. Love the new socks. I mis-read and thought you were resting up for some “swatch work” and wondered just how strenuously you swatched?!

  6. I’m pretty sure that Ms. Kitty is to blame for the disappearance of my 16″ size 7 circular… who knew cats liked circular needles so much?

  7. was the major logic flaw the fact that no sane woman would want anything to do with something coming OUT of the diaper genie?

  8. Mischievous May- rattail is definitely not as good as it sounds. Teeth-off. Take a tip from Chaos, those leather tails on the mice are great. Get’em while they’re hot (and before Chaos)! No interest in Mom’s beautifully dyed 9-to-5’s? Silly girl, her feet will tell you plenty about that switchy-swatchy thingie that has disrupted you routine.

  9. Your yarn did turn out really nice and is knitting up in a cool pattern. Poor May, real rat-tail isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, or at least that is what Mouse has to say about it. When Mouse used to leave her lunch on the porch the tail was always one of the ‘ick, not eating this’ parts.

  10. Mayhem really does have an ongoing thing w/Addi’s, doesn’t she? Well, once you’ve found the right brand of needles…..

Nice socks! Not knit by a 9 to 5’er though, eh? lol. The color looks really good, nice dye job!

Carol Goodman, eh? [adds another name to the hugely growing list]

  11. Thanks for the book recommendation! I need to go to an used book store to pick up a couple books for a trip soon. 🙂 That and pack plenty of yarns of course.

    9 to 5, eh?
