Serpentine Mayhem

Lisa moved her blog to her own domain and is having a contest to celebrate! Leave her a comment by 5 pm EDT, August 5, to be entered and possibly win a gorgeous fibery prize.

Thanks to Janna for the heads up on this silly “test”: Which lolcat are you? I was Cheezburger Cat. If you don’t want to end up as Cheezburger Cat, you should probably have a snack before taking the test.

I’m very behind on blog reading after a weekend away. Please do let me know if you have a contest you’d like me to post about this week!

Reading Update
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling (audio). Plodding along, but I will finish listening to these again before I listen to Book 7. I’m #96 on the waiting list (and there are 94 copies) – I need to speed up my listening, don’t I?!
A Killer Stitch by Maggie Sefton. Is it just me? Or do others have trouble getting into these knitting mysteries set in fictitious Fort “Connor,” Colorado?
Passon, Betrayal, and Killer Highlights by Kyra Davis. The second book about mystery writer Sophie Katz and her cat, Mr. Katz, is as enjoyable a read as was Sex, Murder and a Double Latte.

Knitting Update
Alas, I didn’t finish my TDF KAL project – the Sockamania Serpentine Socks. I got about 1.5″ knit on them Friday at the cabin (on the dock, with the cool breezes blowing off the lake…. ahhhh…) before everyone else arrived. Didn’t touch ’em again after that. (The cabin was great fun – it was sunny and there were no bugs worth speaking of.) I would’ve had to knit every waking minute (and a few sleeping ones, too) in order to finish these in time. Ah well, at least I wasn’t kicked out of the Tour for drug use, eh?! (Please ignore how shockingly dirty the bottom of my foot was in the picture below – what can I say, I was just back from the cabin.) (And obviously too lazy to go wash my foot and take another picture!)

“While Mom is obsessing over having such a dirty foot, I’m just going to steal this Addi. I’m sure she won’t miss it, since she isn’t using it right now anyway.” -Mayhem

  1. Yeah…you’d better hurry up with those Potters! 🙂 I’ve been trying to avoid all Potter talk, since the excess of it sort of spoiled the 6th book for me. It’s been shockingly easy, but I’d better get it soon before I crack!

  2. Silly girl! Then again, Gandalf sez – go for it!

Glad you had a good weekend up nord! I was out sailing yesterday…nice. Are you knitting both socks at the same time? I can barely manage one at a time!

  3. Chris, I agree: Sefton’s is just plain painful. I mean, Chris, when was the last time you had a conversation in which every single person in it used the other person’s first name in every sentence? Is it just me, Chris? Or do you, Chris, find this extremely annoying and ameteurish as well?

Oh, and, Chris, the socks are looking nice, too.

  4. Those Maggie Sefton books are so bad, yet good all in one. I wouldn’t ever buy one in hardcover but I did buy the first 3 in paperback and circulated them through our knitting club.

My favourite cringeworthy thing in the books is the “gulping”, “long draught”, “giant sip” of coffee. How many ways can you describe “drinking”?

  5. Killer Stitch (library copy) is on my TBR pile next to the bed. However, HP7 and Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norell and about 10 pounds of other library books are there, too. So maybe I won’t stress to get to that one.

May, go for the EMPTY Addi. She will definitely miss any that have stitches on them.

  6. Well, I haven’t even started my Serpentine socks, so don’t feel like too much of a slacker. Thanks for the Bag Porn, by the way – I had one in my basket before I stopped myself and closed the window!!! Eek.

Well – I’m off to finish sweaters and ready HP7, now that I can pry it from the teenagers grubby mitts.

  7. I am way behind on my blog reading as well! Time to get back to my old routine. How have you been feeling? I hope all is well.

  8. It sounds like a great weekend at the cabin! You came close to finishing.

May it looks like your mom has plenty of Addis. Surely she can spare one for you. 😉

  9. I re-read all the Harry Potter books before I started on 7, too (I stayed up until 1am finishing Deathly Hallows last night. So. Good.).

Oh – have you read any of the Ellen Byerrum “Crime of Fashion” mysteries? They’re very fun. 🙂 Maybe we could start a knitters who love mystery books book swap. 😉

Oh, and I was Lion Warning Cat.

  10. I missed the dirt for the piece of Posy Sock Sack that showed up on the other side of that photo! Glad it is still being a helpful item!!!
Maybe those Addi’s should get slipped in there…May MIGHT leave them alone then?
    lol
Glad you had a great weekend!
    (((hugs)))

  11. Great progress on your KAL, and the socks are grey, so we didn’t hardly notice the dirt 😉 I bet May can do a great ‘Serpentine’ impression just with her oh-so-flexible spine! I was Cheezeburger Cat too… funny how it says something about ‘if you are this cat you might have something to do with perpetuating lolcats on the internet’… *whistles* yea, that was my evil twin!

  12. Ah, a weekend away. How lovely!
I am Lion Warning Cat (a cat looking out of an car window with its mouth wide open, screaming “Jesus Christ, it’s a lion! GET IN THE CAR!”)

  13. Glad to hear the next Katz book is as entertaining as the first. I’ve got it queued up for the iPod, but have not been listening to books much lately. I’ve been too obsessed with a certain music web site and swap web site :-O

  14. The socks look good! And at least you have the satisfaction that you did them drug free. Boy, nothing but steroids scandals lately.

I have to be in a certain mood for any of those knitting books. Sometimes I enjoy them and sometimes they are just so dang *twee*.

  15. I just read one of the Sefton mysteries too and it just wasn’t good. Oh well. Luckily there are lots of better books out there and hers hardly took any time to get through…
