Nip nippin’ away

DonÒ€ℒt forget about the Biteberry Yarn contest, which runs until 6 pm CDT, Friday, July 20 (aka as today)!

Wendy’s giving away a copy of The Celtic Collection. Send an email to her contest line before noon EDT, July 24.

Miss T is giving away a copy of Getting Unstuck Without Coming Unglued by Dr. Sue O’Doherty, which Miss T thinks “every woman who’s an artist of any kind – painter, writer, dancer, sculptor, singer, whatever – should read…” Leave a comment by noon CDT, July 24, if you’d like the chance to win.

Beware! My neighborhood pet store, Urbanimal, has some adorable rescue kitties (from Underdog Rescue) in need of homes. That’s how I ended up with Mayhem… There’s an adoption event at the store (2106 Hennepin Ave S, Minneapolis) on July 21 from 2 – 4 pm. Check out some of the kitties I was petting today: a little black kitty boy named Davis, a very fluffy and extremely affectionate black kitty boy named Wendell (I was oh so tempted), a handsome tuxedo kitty boy Clark Gable, a fluffy tabby and white kitty girl named Harriet (she looks like Matisse, Fraro!), and more…

Yesterday morning I was in the shower and May tried to jump up on to the shower curtain rod. I saw paws over the rod and then her little face peeking over. I could see the outline of the rest of her dangling body through the curtain… and then she fell to the floor with a mighty thump. Fortunately she seems ok. But it was scary for both of us! At least the commotion definitely woke me up.

I mentioned yesterday that KnitNana sent some homegrown catnip along with the stitchmarkers. May was quite taken with it…

“Hello? May?? Helloooooooo? Um, maybe you could let Mom get some of that nip out of the bag? Never mind, I can see it’s a lost cause… You’re such a niphead.” -Chaos

Hmm. Chaos might be onto something there…

  1. May…Dude…

Heh heh. So, no kitten? Last weekend, my local PetValu had a kitten adoption day, and I was in and out of that store so fast! Otherwise, had I lingered I would have come home with a wee surprise for the kitties…

  2. Step away from the rescue kittens!!! I SO know the feeling. That’s why I wont even let myself go into those places unless we are looking for a rescue cat. That’s how we got our last two and then another one decided to adopt us. NOw a 5th one has been hanging out….
LOVE that mayhem cant wait for it to come out of the plastic. LOL

  3. Mayhem, the first step is admitting you have a problem! πŸ˜‰

Cute kitties, Chris. Both of my Labs came from rescue organizations. That’s what I suggest to everyone before going to a breeder.

  4. My boys would’ve bitten through that plastic bag in a flash! I recently discovered that nothing – not even a box containing a 4 lbs. sealed bag of cat food – is sufficient to keep them away from what they want.

Good on you for supporting adoption. I do, too.

  5. Where did she jump FROM that she managed to even get her paws on the shower curtain rod? Of course, she’s a young’un. Tell Chaos that MayMay is a do it yourself kind of gal!

  6. It’s so hard being in the market for a kitten. And then you go and make it harder! Lol.

May and Matisse have a few things in common…. hm. I should give him some catnip.

  7. I’m glad that I don’t live near Minneapolis… I can’t get another kitty right now and the temptation might be my undoing. Catnip… we all have our weaknesses. Did you see the Stuff On My Cat picture of the kitty with his tub-o-nip from earlier this week? Too funny.

  8. Good thing May didn’t make it onto or over that rod! Wet cat + naked person possibly with soap in her eyes = pain/blood/tears/cursing/hissing

    Yowtch!

  9. I want those kittens, but our existing kitty population is all Martin can stand. Many times/day he threatens to barbeque the cats, so we got him a father’s day shirt that says: “Cat, the other white meat.”

  10. Orville is my leaper. He likes to get on top of the shower in my current place, and in the last one he used to pull down the shower curtain rod. This is preferable to climbing the clothes in my closet, his other favorite thing.

  11. So I’m guessing that May landed on the outside of the shower, and not the inside? That’s good. Otherwise there would have been wet kitties and scratched moms, and it would have been a Bad Morning.

    Happy weekend!

  12. Oh, my gosh! If I were in Minneapolis, Clark Gable would be mine. Not only is he a tuxedo like Simon, but Clark Gable is my favorite dead actor.

  13. this reminds me of something that happened about 10 years ago when I was leaving with my mom. one morning I went to the bathroom to take a shower and when I opened the curtain, a cat was sitting in the tub. and we didn’t have a cat! the little guy got in through an opened window and had spent the night there πŸ™‚

  14. What great pictures! Pepper feels the need to chew the corner off the ONE toy (cat nip pillow) I can give Bartholamew and KNOW he’ll play with. She wants the nip inside. However, when I give her “fresh” nip… nothing. Maybe I need to start growing it. Or hitting up Knitnana… πŸ™‚

Glad she’s OK after her shower fall. You’ll understand if I don’t tell Pepper that there is an Over the curtain?

By the time I got here Clark Gable had already been adopted! YEAH!

  15. Wow, and I thought Katie was a high jumper! Glad to hear she’s okay.

May, the first step is admitting you have a problem. πŸ˜‰

  16. Rescue kitties, yay! We used to go to the Humane Society off Hwy 55 just to look. Ha! We got one kitty, Zoot, the Siamese cross, may she rest in peace, just because she was so cute. The rest (over the course of at least 10 years) we managed to resist.

  17. Love the nip pictures! Silly kitties.

As for May jumping onto the shower curtain rod – my tortie, Tigger, did that when she was about 3 or 4 (within our first year here, I think). Jumped from the sink to the curtain rod, just like that. Funny cats. My cat Mimi has jumped up onto the top of a *door* several times in her lifetime. Sometimes from our dresser in the bedroom, sometimes from the kitchen windowsill. Cats’ jumping (and landing and balancing) abilities amaze me!

  18. OK May, you win this round. πŸ™‚ I have closet-shelf-bath-towel nappers but never the shower curtain. Millie “supervises” form The Center of the bathmat and Bailey considered sitting between the liner and the shower curtain for about a week.

Organic it totally the way to go. After having “help” with the new bag of food and loosing the nip war–everything goes into plastic containers. And the girls know that the nip container looks like!

  19. Oh, no WAY do I go near those things! Strangely, Dave thinks four cats is “more than enough”. Heehee. May does love her nip!
