“…strung out from the road…”

(Phrase first heard in Bob Seger’s song “Turn the Page.”)

Not quite home yet, but I will be tomorrow. Currently, I’m in a motel in Janesville, Wisconsin. I’m only five hours from home, but please refer to the title of this post for why I stopped here for the night. 🙂

What have I been up to since last I posted?

  • I spent more quality time hanging out with Brigitte and the Little Dudes. Waaah! I wish they lived lots closer!
  • I went to dinner at Lorraine’s house with Brigitte and got to meet Lorraine’s family and the famous Kitten Chow! Waaah! I wish they lived lots closer!
  • At Lorraine’s, I experienced the tasty Canadian phenomenon of Swiss Chalet chicken.
  • I met Lea! Waaah! I wish she lived lots closer!
  • I rode the subway and the GoTrain.
  • I met MamaTulip! Waaah! I wish she lived lots closer!
  • My love for Kuroi Neko has increased tenfold.
  • I saw Niagara Falls. Whoa. There will be pictures at some point. (When you see signs that say “Unusual mist conditions”? You better believe them!)
  • I spent the night at a motel in London. Ontario, that is.
  • That was the first time I’ve stayed in a motel room that didn’t have art on the walls.
  • Perhaps they realized that no art could possibly complement the brilliantly patterned bedspreads. (My eyes! My eyes!)
  • I was happily surprised to not have a wait at the US-Canadian border in Detroit Windsor.
  • I made the border guard guy laugh when I declared my five gf beers.
  • I’m still bummed that they don’t stamp passports for the US-Canadian border.
  • And… I’m creating a post that doesn’t have a picture of Chaos or Mayhem in it. Fear not – today we have guest black kitty Gandalf.

  1. You didn’t get your passport stamped at the border? When we visited Winnipeg last year we were granted visitor visas that were good for a month. I found that incredibly amusing at the time. Still do for that matter.

  2. I’m thinking I’ve had my passport stamped at the northern border. Coming home from Montreal in June I made the border guard laugh when she asked us about drugs, alcohol, or firearms. I said, “No. We’re boring that way.”

  3. I completely understand the “strung out on the road thing”.

Did you ask the border guards if they could stamp your passport, cause maybe they have them but don’t often use them?

Yeah, there’s even a rumor on greykitties.com that you’re in big trouble when you get home. 🙂 It sounds like you had great fun though!

  4. oh my Gsndalf, I hope that you are not a true fortune teller.. Chris deserves a week “off”. ( free of retribution from cat-roomies)
Love that you made the border guys laugh with you GF beer declarations.
It’s good to travel, and it’ll be good to be home.

  5. Looks like you had a lot of fun! Must of been fun meeting up with so many of your online buddies like that. 🙂

I bet your babies don’t leave your side for at the very least a week when you get home…

  6. The “no stamping” thing sucks – we went to Niagara Falls on our honeymoon, and had to BEG them to give us stamps. One guy didn’t want to, but the other agent told him to “get over it” and she gave us a stamp.

  7. Hey, I know that little face! He’s been looking at the door longingly ever since you left, hee hee!

I’m glad you had a great time with us – have a safe, rest of the drive home.

  8. You’re right Gandalf. A revolt is in order. After a couple of Chris’s trips up nord and now this extended trip out of country? I wouldn’t blame May and Chaos if Chris came home to find her book collection on the floor and all the Nathan Kamp covers torn off.

  9. Oh, I wish you lived closer too Chris! I so enjoyed meeting you…

I can’t wait to read my new book… Thank you again..

Gandalf is so cool, and his name does suit him. 😉

Safe trip across those final miles.

  10. Oh Chris, glad to hear that you had a great time!! A little jealous of the fun you had and the people meeting that you go to do!!!

And I am praying that Gandalf was just reading rumors… because you do deserve a break… But just remember the movies Home Alone… yea, I think you are in for!! LOL!!!

    Wish we all lived closer!
Have a safe drive my friend!

  11. Chris- It would have been shameful to send you home without having the Swiss Chalet experience.

Wish we all lived closer- it would be a blast.

Safe journey- and hugs to Chaos and Mayhem.

  12. I really wanted to go up (well technically, “down”) to Canada when I was in Detroit last month, but we just didn’t have the time.

Sounds like you’ve had a great trip!

  13. Sad for you to live Brigitte and the Little Dudes, but hopefully Gandalf has passed the word to Chaos and May to be gentle and forgive. Don’t insult the hand that gives the Greenies, right?

    Have a safe trip home!

  14. Niagara Falls is spectacular. I was there on a day when someone had tried to go over in a barrel. Much excitement! I think it all turned out OK–they didn’t go over.

Best of luck with the kitties when you get home!

  15. Gandalf! Such a handsome guest black kitty.

    Isn’t Niagara Falls amazing???

Sounds like you had a great time! And that a transporter would be really, really nice.

  16. OH my goodness I’ve spent soooo much time in Janesville WI when I was a little kid, well little kid to about 20. At least 2 weekends a year we spent there. Did you see the giant cow?

The kitties are probably plotting your demise.

  17. oh boy. not only do you disappear for days, but you post a different black kitty? chaos is never going to forgive you. (well, not til the day AFTER you get home)

my geography is horrid… you drove through chicago or you went over and through the UP? Did you stop in Windsor for some yummy Dim Sum? (mostly gf!! we use lots of rice flour instead of wheat flour)
