“Un-freaking-believable”

Yup. That pretty much covers it. (Thanks to MC Mary Lou for summing it all up so nicely.) I woke up this morning feeling slightly hungover from all the yarn and knitting and knitters and general excitement of yesterday – good thing I took today off, eh?

But to begin at the beginning… I wandered down to the Yarnery around 3 pm Wednesday to pick up my copy of …Casts Off... I bought some yarn, to show my support for the event, of course. 🙂 Then Amy (Knit Think) picked me up and we went over to Pad Thai Grand Cafe, where we met up with some other knitters. (Please note that in cases in which I am not sure if a particular blogger wants her name “out there,” I have just used the blog name.)

From the left, CursingMama, flat Vicki Knitorious (the photo), Beadslut, Jess of Mikknit, Stephania of Moraie Knitting, Connie (oh, great, you can see my butt in the extreme left of the first picture on Connie’s blog – but you can also see Limedragon, sitting down and wearing a lime sweater), Cynthia, and Amy.

After dinner, we headed over to the William Mitchell Law School Auditorium and were amazed at the crowd of around 400 knitters. I’m going to miss people and I apologize! I saw Christy of Purling Away, Limedragon, a group of bloggers from Woodbury, Renee of A Good Yarn, Louise of Louise Knits, Jeanne (of course!) of k3tog, Kelle of Knits and Giggles, Shelly the Heathen Housewife, Deb of Cashmere Dreams, Knot All That, Susan of TheRaineySisters (she got a great picture of Stephanie’s hysterically funny t-shirt, available here), and KnittyMama (*gasp* I actually got a picture!).

Here’s the traditional picture of the Yarn Harlot taking a picture of knitbloggers taking pictures of her taking a picture…

Stephanie was brilliantly funny – I hurt after laughing that hard for nearly an hour. And then we queued up for the signing. When I reached the front of the line, she started to sign my book and I put down one of my blog cards. She looked at it and said, “Stumbling Over Chaos?! I’m discombobulated! It’s like meeting Batman or something.” Of course, I mostly lost the ability to speak coherently at that point. And let’s just say that I am not photogenic. Not one tiny little bit – why yes, my eyes are closed. And that’s the good picture!

I actually like this blurry picture of me much better:

Many, many thanks to the Yarnery, for organizing this event so well. They had many, many doorprizes (I won one! pictures eventually) and gave each of us a nice canvas tote.

*sniff sniff sniff* “Wow, smells like a lot of fun, Mom!” -M

  1. That looks so fun! I’m excited that I finally get to see Stephanie on this tour, but I’m totally jealous of the whole meeting up with other knitters. And yes, it’s definitely a good thing you have a day off to recover!

  2. OMGosh, I am so jealous of all of you who live near the tour. *major pouting*
I would love to go. Anywho, it looks like you just had an absolute blast.

  3. well, in that case, I’m glad Stephanie’s photo-taking skills rubbed off on me enough to get a good pic on your camera!

and btw, for having an ‘omg’ moment at the size of my camera, you did just fine – no blur and my eyes are open. (I’m sorry I couldn’t reciprocate)

  4. So freakin’ cool!!! Knitbloggers AND Stephanie? Have you recovered yet???

I’m not sure she’s actually coming to Seattle this time, but she will be in Portland so I might just have to make the drive…

  5. Oh my gosh, I’m there!! I didn’t know I was going to be there!! (I hope I had fun.) (I’m sure I did.)
    ; )
The really freaky thing is that I was actually wearing that sweater yesterday.
Sorry *I* missed it. I hope to get over there soon, though.

  6. aaaaah looks like you had a fabulous time!!!

ps: I don’t know what’s wrong with my Bloglines but I only get half your posts…

  7. I think I recognise the sweater (not yours or the Harlot’s) in the blurry picture! Was it knitted in Jamieson’s spindrift and an original design?

  8. I’m envious and jealous 🙂 Harlot will be here today, but I can’t go because DH is out of town(and I’m not taking Diva and Rage).

It sounds like you had a great time!!

  9. I have no idea what I said to Stephanie last night. It is all a blank and a blur…can remember every word before, every word after..but the between is fuzzy. I am such a dork!
It was fun! Enjoy your day off

  10. It was so fun, wasn’t it??? But I don’t think LimeDragon was at dinner with us, was she? I talked to her at the event…

  11. Isn’t she amazing! and so nice! And she knew who you were! Actually, she’s pretty great that way — when she was in Austin, she took my picture and it ended up on her blog, with a link to mine, even though I hadn’t given her my blog name. Granted, she knew I was from San Antonio, and my name is fairly unique, but I was so impressed that she made the effort to link to me.

  12. Holy Batman! If Stephanie had said “What? You’re Knitnana?” to me? Well I wouldn’t have been standing for the photo…you’d have had me on the floor! lolol
CONGRATULATIONS!!! But of course, we ALL know YOU and Chaos (and Miss Mayhem of course) are FAMOUS! I’m so glad you had fun!
    ((((hugs))))

  13. I’m jealous and I don’t even knit! Could we have a non-knitters knitting party next time? We’ll all drink girly drinks, eat cake, and make fun of men.

  14. Wow, what a week,
visits with both the Peeve’s and the Harlot!
Would Chaos and May like a book signing tour?
Ok, Mom it’s time to write a book, LOL.
    Lindy

  15. You must have had a GREAT time!!! Did you go to sleep that night mumbling..”the Harlot knows my name….the Harlot knows my name…”

    LOL…I’m tooooootally unphotogenic myself.

  16. Sounds like you all had a GREAT time!! Funny, the Batman of knitting! I picked up the “Back to the Future” video to watch recently and saw “BatThumb”. Batman with all the characters in thumbs. Potential to be hilarious…or not. Have you seen it?

  17. I am always on the hunt for great Pad Thai. It’s been a while since I’ve had any since it usually involves a trip to Seattle. And a Yarn Harlot hangover. What could be better? The closest I’ve been to YH is to be in the same spot she has been or will be. I guess in the theoritical physics world it would work… Hi to C&M!

  18. Wow – it looks like you and so many bloggers had a great time at the Yarn Harlot! You really do take decent pictures Chris ;o) *excepting eyes closed* but as I know, we are often biased when the pictures are of ourselves!

  19. woohoo! yarn gathering! i can’t afford it right now so i’m totally living vicariously… isn’t it great? 🙂

  20. Wow, looks like fun! That Harlot has a brain like a steel trap, doesn’t she? But, I think you and the kitties and your blog are pretty memorable……
