Ouch! That’s going to leave an interesting scar…

So Sunday I was on my bicycle, heading over to the Greenway to put in a few miles on the trails, when the car in front of me stopped unexpectedly. I stopped quickly and didn’t crash or wipe out, but I did manage to catch my right calf on the front sprocket.

Since I didn’t see anything that suggested stitches, I continued on to bike about seven miles before heading home to scrub bike grease out of my cuts. Here’s a before scrubbing picture:

Heck, it doesn’t look half bad using the flash.

This is what it looked like Tuesday evening – can you see the bruises forming? That’s going to be darn colorful in a few days.

  1. Ooo, ow ow ow! Ick, those bruises look pretty gross…

Sometimes it’s the ones that don’t really hurt at the time that look the worst. How did you clean it?

  2. Ouch is right! That’s a mighty good looking bruise building up. Don’t push on it just to feel how tender it is. Chaos, you should be more helpful!

  3. Looks almost like the cats were using you as a scratching post. Are you sure you didn’t make up the bike story to cover for a sparkly pink mousie incident or something?

Hope it heals up quickly. Looks like it stings a lot. Triple antibiotic ointment!

  4. I had to count the number of scratches to make sure you weren’t covering up for what was really a kitty attack. But unless either Mayhem or Chaos have six toes, I guess they’re innocent.

Owie! Sorry it happened, and I hope it heals quickly. Nice toenail polish.

  5. Ow! Make sure you put bacitracin or something on those scratches — and post more pictures of the bruises as they come in!

    And nice toenail polish…

  6. That is definitely going to be “pretty.” I hope it doesn’t hurt too much as it heals. Do May & Chaos do what my cats do, try to help by snuggling with what hurts?

  7. Road rash is a terrible, terrible thing! I’m glad yours looks like it’s healing well, and you didn’t have a close encounter of the automotive kind. I ride in fear of that myself.

  8. I’m just glad that there was no collision. Drove by a biker being put in an ambulance this morning who wasn’t so lucky. So many bikers on campus have no brakes on their bikes!

Hope the bruises heal up quickly! For a kitty who never leaves the house, Chaos is rather judgemental.

  9. Oh ouch!! But thankful you were not seriousy hurt!! I am glad for that!
Oh a positive note.. congrats on cycling that far distance… I am not a cycler of any kind… I feel like my rear is bigger than it should be and I need those big cusiony seats to make the ride more comfortable.

  10. Oh my goodness, that looks painful. I’ve been lucky since I started biking again; my only injuries so far have been scraped knuckles (mainly from the contortions required to lock my bike in my building’s weird bike room setup).

On the plus side, that sprocket scar gives you amazing street-cred 🙂

  11. OWW! Throw some aloe vera gel on the scratches 2-3 x a day (it won’t sting at all – really) and you will have no sacr.

  12. Double ouch!!! Poor you Chris – yikes!!

I think if you go to my blog there will be something that may make you feel better. 😉

  13. Ouch! See this is a prime example why I always want to wear jeans while bike riding, but hot weather has prevailed and Nick finally convinced me to at least were capris.
