Woot woot – it stripes!

For the readers among us, check out the From the Stacks Winter Challenge – read five books from your shelves by January 30. If you submit your book list by November 15, you’re entered in a drawing, and if you submit five reviews by January 30, you’ll be in another drawing for an amazon.com gift certificate. Here’s my list:

Lambs of God by Marele Day
The Chemistry of Joy: A Three-Step Program for Overcoming Depression through Western Science and Eastern Wisdom by Henry Emmons, MD, with Rachel Kranz
The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez Reverte
Like the Red Panda by Andrea Seigel
Heft on Wheels: A Field Guide to Doing a 180 by Mike Magnuson

I’m knitting self-striping sock yarn that I dyed myself and feeling very thrilled that… it actually stripes. Who woulda thunk it?? (Check it out – Frarochvia is knitting socks from some sportweight that I dyed at the same time!)

“Forget the yarn – it’s more fun to play with sharp pointy toys!”

“Really, Mom, you’re such a worrier. I’m sure it’ll be fun even after someone pokes an eye out – especially if it isn’t me.”

“Well, ok… Hey, with my tongue out, do I match the yarn?!”

  1. Hey! How did you do it? I’ve tried various self-striping things, but always tend to tangle myself up! It looks great! Share your wisdom please! 😉

  2. Chris! Congrats on your self-striping! I made some a while ago to make Ali some pink and purple socks and couldn’t help but be elated by each color change. Have fun with your wicked cool socks!

  3. Gorgeous! Wow…and so’s the yarn (BIG GRIN!)
Naw…we know the kitty is gorgeous, tho’ she’s right, she really does match your yarn. But you should be bubbling-all-over proud of that dye batch!
    whoohoo!
    (((hugs)))

  4. > read five books from your shelves by January 30

But… three of those books are Tom Jones, Moby-Dick, and Tristram Shandy! And I’m still only halfway through Ulysses and Boswell’s Life of Johnson. Can we extend that deadline to, say, June?

p.s. Chaos seems to be camera-shy lately. Is Mr. Garbo purposely letting Mayhem take the limelight?

  5. I just love it when a plan comes together! they’re going to be fab… will they be knee socks? or perhaps some of those cool over-the-knee socks> hmmm

  6. Very cool yarn!

My MIL is constantly worried that Hubby is going to “put his eye out”. when he was 12 he fell out of a tree, cracked his skull and ended up loosing the vision in his right eye. The 4th of July is a hoot around here. “Don’t let him do that! He’s going to put his eye out!” The man is almost 40 (ok, 38 next week) for Bob’s sake!

  7. I caught Gandalf in the sink, playing with a knife…a blunt one, but still. I think Mae put him up to it.

Your socks look great! I love the funky stripes, they’re going to be a splash of colour this winter.

    🙂

  8. Love the stripes, very punk rawk! Be careful when you’re doing the magic loop, my cats were fighting near my ML sleeve and they managed to pull a needle out! Not that Chaos and May *ever* fight;)

  9. I love self-striping yarn. Love it. Never dyed it, but still love it. Hmm, I have 2 skeins of Knit Picks Bare sock yarn. Dare I attempt it? A lazy coward, that’s me…

I’ll take that book challenge! As soon as I figure out how to add the button to my blog I’ll add it. (Typepad could use some help in its help.)

  10. Loving that sock and the matching kitty 😉

How cool to have your own custom dyed yarn. Did you have any trouble with the dye – I’m think allergy troubles. Trust me, I don’t need no more right now……

  11. I love the color combo of your dyed socks. I haven’t gotten the nerve to dye yarn yet. And as we all know… every color looks good with a black cat!
