Can anyone recommend a good ftp program that works in XP SP3? I had been using SmartFTP, but suddenly they want $40 for it. I’d pay $10 or so, but not $40. I’m using FireFTP, but it doesn’t remember the last connected directory when you reconnect. I tried FileZilla, but can’t remember why I uninstalled it – probably because, like CoreFTP Lite, it doesn’t have a nice right click to copy the file path. I just tried WinSCP and I think it will work! Thanks for the recommendations!

Since I know there are those amongst you who actually like to see unobstructed pictures of the knitting… 😉 I mostly like how my graduated dyeing experiment is coming out. However, if I do this again, I won’t make the color sections so long (i.e., I’ll have more colors) and I’ll increase the overlapping/graduated sections. While I only have four colors, Jeanne has six colors, so it could be perfect! (No pressure, Jeanne…)

  1. I was using WinSock for years and years, but lost the program when I moved to a new computer earlier in the year. Currently using FrontPage or DreamWeaver, but I’d like an FTP program, too, so I’ll be watching the comments…

  2. The socks are very cool and subtle, but I see what you mean. Good to know if ever there comes a time I need to dye my own.
Chaos, you can be so silly!

  3. I use AceFTP 3 freeware. the downside is it constantly has a pop-up asking if you want to upgrade to the paid version.

I like the socks, but you’re right – more colors would be nice. you could always dip the toes and/or cuffs in some dye that would overdye nicely.

  4. Hmmm…sorry, but I can help if you want to FTP from say a DL380 to a Cisco 6513 and out, and if you maybe need IPs NATed, but um…yeah, I’m no help…

Well, I love your socks! They remind me of those 3 coloured popsicles… 🙂

  5. That’s a really cute sock. Will you have to make them really long to be able to use the orange and red? The colors remind me a lot of the Kureyon Sock I finished a few weeks ago.

  6. The blending on the socks is very cool, and hey, you could just knit thigh-high socks to get all the colors in, lol.

FTP? XP SX2? Yer speakin’ a foreign language there matey. 🙂

  7. I’m going to pretend like I know what you need ftp for….I know what it stands for but otherwise we’ve crossed the line where I have knowledge worth sharing.

Will you be posting Jeanne’s finished objects? I supposed I could check ravelery….

  8. I’ve been using Filezilla – and it is a pain in the patootie to not have the site I’m sending to automatically appear. But it’s what HQ will let me use to access the shared server from home.

  9. I used WinSCP in my former life (yes, it has an ftp client, among other things). You should be using sftp or scp anyway, if the site you are trying to connect to has those protocol available. Encrypt!

The yarn is washed and hanging, but I doubt it’ll be dry by the time I leave tonight.

  10. Chris- Should I ask Tech Support (aka sonny?)

I think the more you dye, the more you learn, but I do like the way it’s turning out. Sort of Warhol-ish.

  11. The colors and gradation on the sock are about the prettiest things I’ve ever seen! I will definately choose this method as my next dyeing attempt. Hope you all 3 enjoy a great weekend!

  12. I really like the way those socks are turning out. Damnit! You guys are going to get me to start dyeing one of these days, and I just don’t have the time for another new craft! *cries*

  13. I like how the sock is turning out – yet it looks as though you’ll be getting two pairs out of those skeins? – or maybe just some mitts?
and as far as that techie-talk goes… I think you lost me at the first ft-huh? (hee hee)

  14. I’m glad I’m not the only one that is pissed about Smart FTP. I opened it up the other day and found out that they want $40 for it suddenly and without warning! I’m now using the FTP thing that comes with DreamHost. Not as convenient as SmartFTP.. but its free. I realize these people have to make money but they could have cut those of us who have been using it for a long time a bit of a break.
